I am a certified BJCP judge, and reached the level in 2023, having passed the tasting exam in September 2022. My score and experience points make me eligible to take the written exam, which I am (slowly) preparing.
I’ve been interested in craft beer and brewing since my days living in Montreal, not far from the original Dieu du Ciel Brewpub. When I arrived in Rennes, there was not much available in terms of craft beer. This changed completely in the years since. The beer shop Chez Alain popped up, and a whole community interested in craft beer revealed itself shortly afterwards. This led to the creation of the CRAB, Collectif Rennais des Amateur·rice·s de Bière, a homebrewing and tasting club. While I was part of the community, I was not a homebrewer back then and didn’t co-conspire to found the CRAB. I was already looking into passing the BJCP certification, however, and was quickly associated to the CRAB. Since then, I have been a member of the collegial executive council, and, since the statutes changed, president of the CRAB.
With the CRAB , we organize and help organize various homebrewing competitions, help candidates prepare for the BJCP certification and help organize tasting exams for the certification (there have been tasting exams in September 2022, September 2023, and there will be one in September 2024), co-organize and lead tasting sessions, and can generally talk about brewing and tasting beer at various levels.
I have been a judge in BJCP certified homebrewing competion in Rennes and Saint-Malo (of course), but also in Toulouse. I have been a jury member twice for the Bretagne Brewing Competition and once for the Concours Général Agricole in Paris.
I am available to serve as judge in brewing competitions, and can lead events centered on beer, brewing, beer styles, and more.
